Feng Shui & the September Moons

As autumn arrives, we’re invited to pause, breathe, and notice the changes all around us.

The days grow shorter, the air feels crisper, and nature gently reminds us that life moves in cycles.

In Feng Shui, autumn is linked with the Metal element a time for clarity, reflection, and letting go of what no longer serves us.

This September brings us two beautiful moon moments: the Full Harvest Moon on the 7th and the New Moon on the 21st.

Each offers us a chance to work with the energy of the season, both within ourselves and within our homes.

The Full Harvest Moon – 7th September

The Full Harvest Moon, closest to the autumn equinox, is a time of illumination and release. Just as farmers gather the fruits of their labour, we too can reflect on what we have cultivated this year and gently let go of anything that feels heavy or out of balance.

How to align your home with this energy:

  • Declutter the West and Northwest areas of your home (linked to creativity and helpful people).
  • Place a metal object or round crystal here to support the Metal element.
  • Clean windows to let the moonlight in light brings clarity and refreshment.
  • Set crystals such as clear quartz, amethyst, or citrine on a windowsill to cleanse and recharge in the moonlight.

This simple practice supports not only you but also everyone in your household, creating a lighter, clearer energy for all.

The New Moon – 21st September

The New Moon is quiet, still, and full of potential. It’s a moment to plant seeds symbolic, for what you wish to grow over the coming weeks and months.

How to align your home with this energy:

  • Focus on the Southeast (wealth) and North (career) areas of your home.
  • Place a plant or a small bowl of water here to invite growth and new opportunities.
  • Write down an intention for your family or yourself. Place it in the Center of your home (the health and unity area), perhaps under a crystal.
  • Use soft lighting lamps or candles to keep your space warm and inviting as evenings draw in.
  • Candles create a beautiful ,cosy, warm light just remember to not light them in the centre of the home as you don’t want to burn away your health and vitality.

This practice brings a sense of direction and focus, helping everyone in your home feel supported as the season unfolds.

Embracing Autumn Energy

Autumn balances the grounding Earth element of late summer with the crisp, clarifying Metal element. In your home, you might reflect this by combining soft, earthy tones like ochre and terracotta with clean whites and gentle metallic touches.

Keep pathways and hallways open so energy can move smoothly, just as the autumn winds sweep the leaves from the trees.

When we align our homes with the natural rhythm of the seasons, we create spaces that hold and nurture us. The September moons offer us a chance to release with gratitude and to welcome new beginnings with intention.

A Gentle Reflection

The Full Harvest Moon invites us to harvest, release, and give thanks.

The New Moon invites us to pause, dream and plan new ideas.

By using Feng Shui in these moments, we not only create balance in our homes, but also invite balance into every aspect of life for those who share our space.

Affirmation for September:
“I honour the cycles of nature. My home and heart release with gratitude and welcome new beginnings with joy.”
